It's Not Rocket Science

I have a personal policy of eating with my hands when I am among a people group who does so. Sometimes it comes across as a little strange or as "trying too hard," but it is just something that I have felt led to do. Earlier this week, I went to one of the local mosques with a new friend because of an encounter in a restaurant.

Last Sunday, I took my daughter to a local Afghan restaurant and we prayed for an opportunity to witness to people in the restaurant before the meal. At the end of the meal, one of the workers there struck up a conversation with me because he said it was so atypical to see an American eating with their hands, but that is all that they do in their homes. I began to explain to him why I do it and then we got to talking about religion. He said that he had never been inside a church and I said I am filled with questions every time I go into a mosque. We exchanged numbers and not long after, we had plans to go with each other to the mosque and church with hopes of the formation of a new friendship.

I write all of these things because I want to encourage you that encounters like this do not require a degree or a high level of training or evangelistic strategy. If we are being honest, it came down to prayer, being in the community, and a willingness to step out of my comfort zone. Now this man will likely go into a church for the first time after a year in America!

As a friend and mentor of mine likes to remind me, I am just one piece in the chain of witnesses God may be using to draw this man to Himself. The end result is not mine and it is a group effort. You very well could be one of the next pieces if you ever find yourself in Clarkston! I hope this encourages you today and maybe that God will inspire you to come and join in the Christian witness that is taking place here.

Please pray for this young man, for all the unreached people groups in Clarkston, and for the gospel workers who are faithfully trying to reach them. May God bless you today!

In His Love,

Andrew
